Truro Fencing Club
Steve Petrie has been leading the Truro Fencing Club High Performance Programme for a number of years, with huge success at both national and international level. Steve is trusted and liked by all at the club, including the fencing team, athletes’ families and the club’s coaching and management team. He has always gone above and beyond to deliver an outstanding S&C programme specifically tailored to the level and age group of fencer he’s working with. Steve has become an intrinsic part of our coaching team, and works closely with the fencing specialists to make sure his sessions are coordinated with individual programmes. The result has been championship winning performances at GB nationals, and Junior and U17 international medals.

I had the absolute pleasure of working with Steve during the past year in preparation for the Triple H Challenge. His vast knowledge and ability to answer all questions regarding my training was articulate and provided me with the information needed to develop and improve.
All aspects of my training was thoroughly planned and structured in order for me to peak at the right time. Steve provided challenging programs for me to follow, changing them periodically in order to maximise my physical development. I can safely say that I was in the best shape ever and felt confident in I my ability going into the challenge itself thanks to Steve’s input and dedication.
Even though Covid provided us with a problem of not being able to train face to face, Steve’s flexibility during lockdown still allowed me to train and improve as he adapted my program to suit equipment and facilities I had at home. Invaluable information provided yet again, this time through Zoom meetings and video tutorials, also helped me to maintain my form and feel confident when trying new exercises and routines. Steve really went the extra mile during the pandemic to ensure that I didn’t drop in my S & C, encouraging and supporting me each week as the start of the challenge got closer.
The final stage of my prep was aided yet again by his knowledge, info on my nutrition and needs in the final couple of weeks prior to starting proving to be vital. Carb loading, the science behind it as well as stretching and looking after myself was paramount to me being prepared in all areas before commencing my 450mile adventure.
I have no doubt that Steve’s involvement helped me to be totally ready for the challenge and he has helped to change physically and mentally my approach to my own fitness and development.
In keeping with the Triple H Challenge, Steve is: Honest, Hard working and Humble, a true gent who definitely knows his stuff.
I can’t recommend working with Petrie Strength and Conditioning enough whatever your personal fitness goals or challenges may be 👍

Just a quick note to say a big thank you for your help over the summer and ongoing advice. The gym sessions in particular were a huge benefit prior to her first season at Exeter College, you have a great ability to make your athletes feel at ease. The areas worked on have built Merryn’s overall strength, agility and core strength. It’s not just the physical development either, her overall confidence has grown enormously and continues to with your ongoing support. Thank you also for your help with nutrition and always being at the end of the phone if she has any concerns.
Her overall physical development is huge and a great platform for her progression into Bristol Ladies Rugby this year. She is now able to go to the gym with good all round knowledge and technique. I have no doubt that your influence was instrumental in her progression into the Premiership and notably earlier this year into National TDG, and we are very grateful for that. I would recommend you to any young athletes looking to progress at a realistic pace with a coach who has the knack of getting the best out of them!

Can I say thank you for the preseason conditioning plan you did for me.
Having known you for a few years from Launceston RFC I felt it only right that I approached you for the plan.
I’m now forwards coach at my local club who compete at London 3 level and the expectation is to be promoted this year. Asking you for the strength and conditioning plan seemed the right thing to do. On that basis the guys have all been briefed on it and are all up to the challenge. After the first session many felt that the programme was ideal and would work for all levels of fitness.
So on that basis thank you for a great plan and look forward to working again with you.

Just a quick note to say a big thank you for the really great summer pre-season rugby sessions you ran last summer. My son did your gym and outdoor sprint sessions and they were of enormous benefit to him both physically and mentally. You made him feel really comfortable in the individual and group sessions and motivated him enormously to get his fitness back on track and ready for the season.
Your focus on building core stability and strength as well as power and aerobic fitness were fantastic and his physique literally changed in the 3 months he worked with you. It’s not just the physical development either, his overall confidence has grown enormously too. I am also very grateful at the ongoing support and advice you have been able to offer both him and me since then.
You have also provided him with a great platform for him to improve year on year. He is now much more capable of going to the gym on his own to do a work out session knowing what will benefit him most using good technique and knowledge gained from your sessions.
He is already looking forward to your 2019 summer sessions!
I have no hesitation in recommending you to other parents and athletes.
